The other day, I caught myself eavesdropping on a conversation between a four-year-old and his mum.

"Mummy, why is the sky blue?
...Mummy, why didn't you give me my food when I asked?"

To a toddler, those two questions sound exactly the same. They both start with "why," and they both come from a place of pure, unfiltered curiosity. But in the professional world, especially when managing upwards, confusing the two can ruin a working relationship.

There is a fine but critical line between asking questions to understand and questioning someone’s judgment or authority.

One builds bridges.
The other builds walls.

As we navigate global opportunities and leadership dynamics this week, learning the difference between curiosity and confrontation in how we communicate is exactly what's on my mind.
